Tagal Sungai Moroli - A Spa, Close to Nature

Assalamualaikum and hi. It has been a while since we posted something. Therefore, I would like to share another interesting place that we think might catch your attention. Before that, have you ever tried fish massage? Oh yeah, fish massage in shopping complexes. The one in mini "swimming pool" that you soak your leg in it. Perhaps, Thailand fish massage where you soak your whole body in a bath tub and let the fishes pampered your skin.

For your information, there are many sources that say fish massage providers that are not professional in term of preserving the cleanliness of their fish could lead to contagious disease infection towards other costumers. Unfortunately, fish massage providers only focus on their profit rather than their customers health. However, we found a great unseen tourism place in the south east of Malaysia, which is in the state of Sabah. The place is known as "Tagal Sungai Moroli", which could be understood as "Preserved Moroli River".

Crave for something more unique than your average spa? Then you should go here, Kampung Luanti, Ranau for a NATURAL fish massaging session.

It is located in Kampung Luanti, Ranau, 131 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu (2 hours and 40 minutes drive away). The accessability to this place is easy. From Kota Kinabalu, take a taxi and head on Ranau. As you reach Ranau, hire another taxi (don't worry, people are friendly there) and head on Sungai Moroli, Kampung Luanti. This place is very famous among the local people, and the local taxi driver will surely know that famous place.

In the local KadazanDusun dialect, ‘tagal’ means ‘no fishing’, and the main purpose of the ‘tagal’ is to preserve the environment as well as the ecosystem to benefit the future generation. ‘Ikan Pelian’ or Malaysian Mahseer comes from the family of Cyprinidae, is the fish responsible for pampering you. These fishes are specifically trained by the villagers to perform the healing massage activities.

The fish massage is deemed to have a curative effect on those who suffers from psoriasis. Come to Kampung Luanti for regular fish massages and you will enjoy smoother and suppler skin - just like a baby’s bottom. These fishes perform their work in their natural flowing river that is very clean. The manager of this place although take a very close attention on the cleanliness of the fish, the river, and the people that would like to have a massage session. Therefore, there is no risk of getting contagious disease.

If the idea of fishes nibbling off your dead skin doesn’t thrill you, try other activities such as jungle trekking and camping. Should you intend to stay longer, Kampung Luanti is also equipped with a homestay programme to make visitors feel at home every time.
